Surviving the New Year: 9 tricks to help deal with stress and fatigue at work
We work , to live , not live , to work!
One in four adults calls their work the number one stress source in their own lives. Even the most beloved business can turn into a stress factor and severely undermine our health - which is why it is so important to learn how to deal with stress in the workplace. Here are a few simple rules that will help make your office stay and workflow less stressful and safer for health.
Do not give up vacation
This is the most important rule. A recent study confirmed that people who miss annual leave ultimately increase their risk of developing dangerous diseases such as heart attack, stroke, heart attack, and type 2 diabetes by a third. It is great if you have the opportunity to relax several times a year, but if it doesn’t work, then do not refuse at least one vacation.
Separate work and home
Do not discuss home and family concerns with colleagues, and try to leave work problems in the office when you are going home. It is important to clearly distinguish between home and work spheres and try not to think about problems at home while in the office - and vice versa. You can hardly do anything, but the level of stress will increase significantly - and as a result, work, home, and health will suffer.
Take breaks
Use the lunch break to change the atmosphere: ideal, if you can spend this time in the fresh air, take a little walk. If not, try to at least move to another room - even such a small change of scenery will recharge you and help relieve the stress that has accumulated over half a day.
Do not forget about physical education
A small “workout gymnastics” will benefit not only your physical health, but also your mental health: take a short break every hour to do a warm-up. Sipping, bending, walking (at least along the corridor), and if possible, more serious exercises like squats and jumps - all this will help you feel more relaxed and confident.
Breathe
When we experience stress, we often switch to shallow and frequent breathing, which negatively affects our health and creates an additional feeling of anxiety. Every half hour, take a break for breathing exercises: take 10-15 deep slow breaths and exhalations, while making sure that your back is straight and your shoulders as relaxed as possible.
Drink it
Another very simple and effective way to deal with stress is ordinary water. Put a bottle of clean water near the workplace (you can add a little citrus juice or put fresh mint leaves in it) and drink from it in small sips during the day. It’s absolutely wonderful if you do it on the go, but allocate minute breaks for drinking, during which you will try to concentrate on the process and distract from everything else. By the way, this simple exercise perfectly helps to rebuild and take a fresh look at some particularly stubborn task.
Replace one cup of coffee with herbal tea
Chamomile, mint or even regular green tea - all these drinks are good for health and shape, and also have a mild soothing effect. Instead of one of the usual cups of coffee, drink a decoction of healthy herbs.
Give up on social networks
Let's be honest: we all “hang out” from time to time on social networks during working hours — to switch from one task to another or just give ourselves a little rest. But the catch is that at this time, instead of resting, our brain processes a lot of information at high speed - and as a result, we not only do not rest, but also return to work even more tired than usual. To really “reboot”, use a break for a walk, small gymnastics or breathing exercises - you yourself will be surprised how fresh you will feel at the end of the working day.
Take a walk after work
Even if the weather is not very good, try to hold out for at least 5 minutes (or better 15). During this time, try to concentrate on movement and breathing (deep and measured), imagine how all working worries fly out of your head - and relax.
